Waypoint Studio

Privacy

Private by default — and honest when it isn’t absolute. This page describes what the site actually does today, not marketing promises.

What stays on your device

  • Field observations, Sheds sessions, validations, and similar product records in browser local storage (unless you export them).
  • Preferences such as map view, model weights, and ethics acknowledgements for specific apps.
  • Draft contact details kept briefly in session storage when you jump from an app into the contact form.

Clearing site data in your browser removes local records. Exports you download are files you control.

What third parties may see

  • Map tiles (OpenStreetMap, OpenTopoMap, and similar) — approximate map area when you view maps.
  • Weather / elevation providers (for example Open-Meteo, when a tool requests them) — approximate coordinates for the request.
  • Other provider APIs used by Outdoor Intelligence modules (weather, alerts, trails) — request metadata and User-Agent identifying Waypoint Studio.
  • Contact delivery — FormSubmit receives the message you submit and delivers it to contact@waypointstudio.org, hosted with Namecheap Private Email. FormSubmit and the mailbox provider may process delivery metadata (timestamps, IPs, headers) per their policies. Contact submissions are not “on-device only.”
  • GitHub Pages / CDN hosting — standard web server logs (IP, user agent, requested URLs) as with most static sites.

We do not operate an advertising network or sell personal observation databases.

Contact form data

  • Collected: email, optional name, category, subject, message, optional app selection, optional browser/viewport details you allow.
  • Delivery path: FormSubmit → contact@waypointstudio.org (Namecheap Private Email). Submissions leave the device.
  • Not collected by this form: passwords, payment data, automatic GPS, private observations, search tracks, photo metadata, or local storage contents.
  • Attachments are not supported on this form.
  • Please do not paste precise sensitive locations or private observation dumps into a support email unless necessary — anything you type in the message can be included.
  • Retention: inbox mail is kept under the owner’s email account controls; FormSubmit and the mailbox host may retain delivery metadata per their policies.

What we do not claim

  • We do not claim “zero network transmission” while maps and weather run.
  • We do not claim messages are end-to-end encrypted through FormSubmit.
  • We do not claim to be a HIPAA, SOC2, or enterprise compliance product.
  • Citizen science or shared layers, if enabled later, will be opt-in and labeled — they are not the default today for most field notes.

Your choices

  • Deny location permission and explore manually.
  • Omit tech details on the contact form.
  • Export and delete local data via browser controls or in-app export/delete where provided.
  • Email contact@waypointstudio.org for privacy questions.
