Open Beta

ForageCast

Seasonal field intelligence for responsible foraging — starting with morels in the Northeast.

Open beta — live weather and scouting prototypes ship first; observation logging is still in development.

What it does

Combines terrain context, recent weather, elevation, and seasonal timing to estimate when conditions may be improving — for habitat awareness, not harvest guarantees.

MorelCast

Load live weather, generate a field read, or explore the scouting map for your area.

Environmental guidance only — not a guarantee of presence, safety, legality, or edibility. Confirm identification and follow local regulations.

Live weather

Weather-aware field read

Open-Meteo fills rainfall and temperature; you set forest type and elevation.

    Scouting map

    Local scouting map

Where to scout — not where to harvest. Zones blend live weather with elevation and slope proxies.

Not a mushroom map. Broad scouting zones — not property lines, parcel boundaries, or permission to enter land. Use public access maps and local regulations before entering any area.

Enter a location, then generate the map.

High scouting zone Medium zone Low zone
    • Real: Geocoding, 7-day precip/temp (Open-Meteo), per-zone elevation when available.
    • Prototype: Slope/aspect proxy and habitat scoring — not forest cover, ownership, or survey data.
    • Zones: Approximate scouting areas across the visible map — not exact land parcels.

    Ethical foraging rules

    • Know property boundaries before you enter any land.
    • Follow state and local regulations, permits, and seasonal restrictions.
    • Harvest lightly — leave enough for regeneration and wildlife.
    • Leave habitat intact. Avoid trampling understory and disturbing soils.
    • Do not rely on app predictions as permission to enter land.
    • Learn identification from trusted sources before consuming anything.

    Roadmap

Current build and what beta testers can expect next.

    Now · Beta

    • Weather-aware and manual field reads
    • Scouting heatmap MVP
    • Live precip and temperature (Open-Meteo)
    • Beta onboarding and field feedback

    Next · 30–60 days

    • County-level timing refinements
    • Installable mobile web app (PWA)
    • Soil temperature proxies from live data

    Later

    • Observation logging linked to conditions
    • Terrain and habitat GIS layers
    • Additional species — one at a time

Long term: structured field observations paired with terrain and weather layers, building seasonal models grounded in ecology — not anecdote.
