Frequently asked
Where is my data stored?
Most field notes, observations, find logs, and tracks stay in your browser’s local storage on this device unless you export or opt into a future sharing path. Map tiles and some weather services still receive approximate location when those features run. See Privacy.
Why does location fail or show “denied”?
Browsers only share GPS after you allow it. Use Locate me on map tools when you’re ready. You can still explore manually if permission is denied.
Is the Sheds heat map a prediction of antlers?
No. It is relative search guidance with documented uncertainty — never a claim that an antler is present.
How do I get a copy of my data?
Use each app’s Export where available (for example Sheds Field Intelligence exports a private JSON file). Exports stay on your device.
Do you sell data or show ads?
No advertising network and no engagement rankings. Contact messages go to the developer email — not a marketing list.
Known limitations
- Some foundation apps (species browsers, forecasts) are labeled Planned until real data paths exist.
- GitHub Pages hosting is static; contact email depends on the FormSubmit delivery path after first-time inbox activation.
- Offline: previously loaded tiles and on-device data usually remain; live weather and new map tiles need a network.
- Precise shared map/location services are out of scope while private-by-default remains the default.
Reporting a bug
A useful report takes under a minute:
- Which app and page?
- What did you expect?
- What actually happened?
- Can you repeat it? (steps)
- Optional: allow tech details on the contact form.
Feature requests
Describe the job you’re trying to do outdoors or at the desk — not only a control you wish existed. Prefer calm, durable improvements over engagement features.
